Your Beauty Treatment Guide Before a Special Occasion
A countdown for weddings and events: what to book months ahead, what belongs in the final week, and what should never be left to the day before.

The single most common mistake before a wedding, a milestone birthday or a big holiday is leaving everything to the last few days. It is entirely understandable, because that is when it feels urgent, but it is also when treatments have the least room to settle and the most potential to go wrong.
Here is a countdown that spaces things sensibly, starting from the treatments that need the longest lead time.
Six months to three months before
Semi-permanent makeup. If you are considering it, start now. The process involves a consultation, a separate patch test, the treatment itself, several weeks of healing, and a top-up appointment. Rushing any part of that is how people end up with brows they are not happy with in every photograph.
Six to eight weeks is the absolute minimum from first treatment to event, and three months gives you room to breathe. Our guide to semi-permanent makeup sets out the full process.
Any significant change of hair colour or style. If you are going considerably lighter, darker, or shorter, do it now. You want time to live with it, adjust it, and be certain, not to discover the week before that it is not what you pictured.
Start being consistent with skincare. This is the least exciting item on the list and the most effective. Skin cell turnover means genuine changes take six to eight weeks to show, so anything you start now has time to work. Anything you start the week before does not.
Daily sun protection, a cleanser that suits you, and a moisturiser you will actually use twice a day. That is most of it.
A first facial, if you have never had one. Book one early to find out how your skin responds before it matters.
Two months before
Your first waxing appointment, if you are new to it. Waxing results improve over the first few appointments as hair growth synchronises, so starting two months out means the appointment closest to the event is your third or fourth rather than your first.
It also means you find out now how your skin reacts, rather than a week before.
Book everything. Salons fill up, particularly on Saturdays and in the run-up to summer and Christmas. If you need several treatments across one or two visits, ring and book them together so they can be sequenced properly.
A patch test, if you need one. Any lash treatment or colour service may require one. This cannot be done on the day, and it is the most common reason an appointment has to be cancelled at the last minute.
One month before
A facial. Far enough out that any congestion brought to the surface has time to settle, close enough to be part of the run-up.
Trial run for hair and make-up, if you are having them done for a wedding. Take photographs in daylight, because what looks right in a mirror does not always photograph the way you expect.
Second waxing appointment, if you are building a rhythm.
Two weeks before
Final facial. This is the last sensible point for anything exfoliating. Any later and you risk pinkness or a breakout on the day itself.
Any hair colour touch-up or trim. Roots and ends looking fresh but not aggressively just-cut.
One week before
This is the sweet spot for most treatments: recovered, settled, but still fresh.
Waxing. Five to seven days ahead. Redness has fully gone, and there is not enough regrowth to notice. Do not leave it to the day before.
Brows. Threading leaves the area slightly pink for an hour or two, so a week out is ideal. It also leaves room to adjust the shape if you are not completely happy, which is far easier to arrange now than the night before. Our guide on how often to have your brows threaded covers the timing in more detail.
Lash treatments. A week gives them time to settle and, if a follow-up adjustment is needed, time to have it.
Thai massage or a body treatment. If you are carrying tension, and before a wedding most people are, this is a good week for it. Mild muscle soreness the following day is normal, so avoid the final two or three days.
Two to three days before
Nails. Close enough to look immaculate, with a day’s margin if anything needs redoing.
A gentle trim, if you want ends looking sharp.
Nothing new. No first-time treatments, no new products, no experiments. This is the rule that saves people.
The day before
Deliberately, almost nothing.
No facials, no waxing, no exfoliating, no new skincare. Skin needs to be calm, and every one of those risks redness, sensitivity or a reaction on exactly the wrong day.
Sleep, water, and something to eat. Genuinely more useful at this point than any treatment.
Lay everything out. Not a beauty tip, but it removes a category of stress from the morning.
Booking it all efficiently
If you are having several treatments, doing them in one visit saves a great deal of time, but the order matters:
- Facial before brow or facial waxing, never after. Freshly waxed skin should not then be exfoliated.
- Brows early in the visit, so any redness has settled before you leave.
- Hair last, so a wash or style is not disturbed by lying back for another treatment.
Tell us everything you want when you call and we will sequence it properly. Having hair, beauty and aesthetics under one roof at our High Street salon is genuinely useful at this point. It is the difference between one appointment and a morning walking between three.
If something goes wrong
Occasionally skin reacts, or a result is not what you hoped. The reason this timeline builds in margins is precisely so there is time to fix things.
If you are not happy with something, say so promptly rather than hoping it settles. A week out there are options; the evening before there are very few.
The honest summary
Almost everything on this list is optional. Plenty of people turn up to their own wedding having had their brows done and nothing else, and look wonderful.
What matters is that whatever you do choose has time to settle, and that you are not trying anything for the first time in the final week. Beyond that, the sleep and the water probably do more than the treatments.
